The 950-foot arch bridge crosses the Niagara River Gorge connecting the Canadian city of Niagara Falls, Ontario with the American city of Niagara Falls, New York allowing for the passage of motor vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. Rainbow Bridge was designed by architect Richard Lee, dedicated in 1939 by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and opened in 1941. The Rainbow Tower containing a carillon that sounds four times per day is on the bridge's Canadian side. There is a small toll charge for pedestrians and vehicles to cross the structure.
