Fast paced tour

A lot of places were visited during this one day tour. However, the pacing was very fast to avoid the crowd and be on time for the next destination. We had a very informative and funny guide who was a great story teller with a voice that reminds me of Julie Andrews

FAQs about Pulteney Bridge Tours

Is Pulteney Bridge in Bath open to vehicles and pedestrians?

Pulteney Bridge in Bath is open exclusively to pedestrians. Vehicles cannot cross it, as it is a historic Grade I listed structure. The bridge is fully accessible to foot traffic 24/7, providing direct access between Bathwick and the city center. Nearby roads, such as Great Pulteney Street, handle vehicle access.

What makes Pulteney Bridge unique compared to other bridges in the UK?

Pulteney Bridge is one of only a few bridges worldwide lined with shops on both sides. Designed by Robert Adam in the 18th century, it draws inspiration from Florence's Ponte Vecchio. Are there good viewpoints near Pulteney Bridge for photos of the River Avon?

Yes, the walk along the north bank of the River Avon, downstream from Pulteney Bridge, offers excellent views of the bridge’s iconic arches and the surrounding parkland. Prior Park Landscape Garden also provides a panoramic vantage point, especially at sunrise or after rainfall when the water levels are high.

Does Pulteney Bridge flood during heavy rain, and does that affect access?

Yes, Pulteney Bridge can experience partial flooding during periods of prolonged heavy rain, particularly in winter. The lower walkways near the river may close for safety, but upper pedestrian paths usually remain open. Check Bath & North East Somerset Council’s flood alerts for real-time updates before visiting.
