Legend has it that the town of Oberammergau began production of their famous Passion Play every ten years during the height of the bubonic plague when villagers vowed to honor Christ with the play if they were spared of the disease. As the town avoided the plague throughout the rest of its duration, the town continues to produce the play to this day, with nearly half the town performing and working on production in 2010.
