Best Nagoya Castle Tours from Tokio

Nagoya Castle is the most famous landmark in Nagoya and a symbol of the city’s samurai heritage. Originally constructed in 1612 under the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the castle played an important role in Japan’s feudal era. Although much of it was destroyed during World War II, the keep was reconstructed in 1959, and today it houses a museum showcasing samurai armor, weapons, and the history of the Tokugawa clan. The castle is also known for its golden shachihoko - mythical tiger-headed carp statues that sit atop the roof and have become an emblem of Nagoya. Surrounding the castle, spacious gardens and moats create a peaceful setting, especially popular during spring when cherry blossoms are in full bloom and in autumn when the foliage adds vibrant colors.
