La Bocca della Verità, the Mouth of Truth, is a marble image of a man-like face located in the portico of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, one of Rome’s oldest churches. Some speculate the Mouth of Truth was part of an ancient Roman fountain, while others think it was nothing more than a manhole cover.
