The coastal city of Milford is located between Bridgeport and New Haven in Connecticut. The area which is today's Milford, Orange and West Haven was purchased in 1639 by English settlers from the Native American tribe the Paugusett Nation. The area was originally named Wepawaug after a river that runs through the former town. In 1959, the town of Milford and the neighboring Borough of Woodmont was incorporated as the city of Milford. The city of Milford is home to more than 52,000 residents and is known for its many cultural events, including their popular annual Oyster Festival.
