The Canadian maximum security prison operating continuously from June 1, 1835 to Sept. 30, 2013 is a domed building constructed so the prisoners could be directly monitored in their cells and contains a Regional Treatment Centre. Kingston Penitentiary housed 350-500 prisoners and approximately 150 in the treatment center each with their own cell before it was shut down.
