This impressive site in San Marino, Calif. features a historic library, large art collection and 120 acres of unique botanical gardens. The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, often just simply called The Huntington, was started in 1919 by wealthy businessman Henry E. Huntington. The library was designed by architect Myron Hunt and contains approximately six million items include rare treasures such as the Ellesmere manuscript of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. The Art Collections are housed in two buildings the Huntington Art Gallery and the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art. Highlights from the botanical gardens include the Australian Garden, Children's Garden, Desert Garden, Japanese Garden, Lily Ponds, Rose Garden, Shakespeare Garden and the Chinese Garden.
