The city of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, was established in 1833. The city was formerly called "Defiance," and was renamed Glenwood Springs by town founder Isaac Cooper's wife Sarah, who named it after her hometown, Glenwood, Idaho. The city is located in confluence of the Colorado River and the Roaring Fork River.
