Referred to as "The Edge of America," this popular South Carolina beach city near Charleston welcomes more than 100,000 visitors per year. Folly Beach is on a barrier island called Folly Island that runs six miles between the Folly River and the Atlantic Ocean. The island was used during the United States Civil War as a staging area for Union soldiers. Folly Beach contains many shops, restaurants and attractions. It's also a popular surfing spot.
