Best Ecuador Tours & Trips

Small in size but immense in impact, Ecuador offers a "best-of" South American experience within a single, manageable border. You can stand with one foot in each hemisphere at the Mitad del Mundo near Quito, a capital city famous for its impeccably preserved colonial center. The Avenue of the Volcanoes provides a dramatic backdrop for hiking around the perfectly conical Cotopaxi, while the Otavalo Market showcases the continent’s most vibrant indigenous textiles. Of course, the jewel in Ecuador’s crown is the Galápagos Islands, a living laboratory of evolution where sea lions, giant tortoises, and blue-footed boobies show zero fear of human visitors.

Quito

Many Ecuador tour packages begin in the capital, Quito, where visitors love to

•explore the beautifully preserve and restored colonial style buildings, including various cathedrals and monasteries.

•take Quito night tours to get a unique perspective of the city.

•visit to “Mitad del Mundo” where you can literally step across the equator from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern hemisphere and back again.

Journey from Quito to Other Parts of the Country

After allowing you to relax in Quito for a day or two, many Ecuador tours will take you to see the country’s other wondrous sights.

Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are legendary for the biodiversity of their flora and fauna. The 13 islands and 6 isles that make up the Galapagos archipelago are teeming with unique examples of birds, reptiles and plants. The clear blue Pacific Ocean makes snorkeling and scuba diving popular activities on many Galapagos Islands tours.

As you tour Ecuador and Galapagos Islands treasures you will be amazed at how in-tune the locals are with the importance of nature and the need to protect it while enjoying it.

Cotopaxi

Cotopaxi is just 31 miles from Quito and on a clear day you can see the beautiful, snow-capped volcanic mountain in the distance. Travel from Quito along Volcanoes Avenue to Cotopaxi National Park where you can take a day tour of the park including a visit to an authentic local plantation on its grounds.

Cuenca

Ecuador’s third largest city is a very vibrant mix of nature, culture and architecture. In Cuenca you will find cathedrals a-plenty, including the very first one built in the city. Cuenca is also home a cathedral considered to be one of the biggest in Latin America.

If you like Panama hats, then on your visit to Cuenca you might get the chance to visit a hat factory to see for yourself how the iconic hats are made. Go on a walking tour of Cuenca to meet the proud and friendly locals, shop for souvenirs and take keepsake photos of genuine Ecuadorian life.

Guayaquil

Ecuador’s largest city, Guayaquil, is also one of South America’s main Pacific ports. Scrumptious seafood, lively music and welcoming locals are the norm here. Walk alongside the river or relax in any of the city’s many green areas as you become a part of the energetic yet soothing pace of the city.

Museums, shopping arcades and scenic views abound in Guayaquil. Take some of your best keepsake photos atop the Santa Ana and El Carmen hills where the city is laid out beautifully at your feet.

Explore the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest from an eco-lodge

Many tourists who visit Ecuador have a deep seated love of nature. While they want to experience nature’s wonders, they also want to be sure that they do so in a way that preserves rather than harms the environment. An Ecuador Amazon tour package arranged with an eco-lodge will certainly set your mind at ease about protecting the environment.

Enjoy the comfort of the lodge, inclusive of meals and be prepared for both day and night tours of the river and rainforest. Accompanied by your expert local guide, you will get up close views of jungle birds, ocelots, capybara, insects, reptiles and monkeys.

Learn about the way of life of indigenous Amazon Rainforest people. Sample the local cuisine, watch a traditional dance and take the opportunity to purchase original and authentic craft items.

Best Time to Visit Ecuador

Winter 2026/2027
Winter in Ecuador (December to February) presents a different but no less appealing side of the country. In the highlands the rainy season begins in earnest - mornings may be sunny but afternoons often see showers and hail at altitude; temperatures remain mild in the day but drop sharply at night. The coastal region and islands, by contrast, are in their warm-wet phase: beaches such as those near Montañita or in the Galápagos shine with warm sea temperatures, sun-drenched days and brief tropical downpours. For wildlife fans this is an outstanding time: marine turtle nesting, sea-lion pups and bird-breeding activity in the Galápagos archipelago enrich the experience. Inland, candles flicker at festivals such as Semana Santa in the highlands and market-towns like Otavalo are alive with Indigenous crafts and culture against lush, green terrain.

Spring 2026
As spring arrives in Ecuador (March through May), the landscapes start emerging from the heavier rainfall of earlier months - especially in the highlands. In the Andean region around Quito and the volcanic belt, you’ll typically find crisp, clear mornings followed by afternoon showers and cool nights - the “four-seasons-in-one-day” phenomena remains a reality. Along the Pacific coast, such as around Guayaquil or the surf breaks near Montañita, temperatures climb comfortably into the high 70s to low 80s °F (around 26-28 °C) and scattered rain showers still make an appearance, especially in April. It’s a superb time for nature-lovers: in the cloud-forest and rainforest zones (for example near Baños de Agua Santa or in the Amazon region) you’ll see lush greenery, wild orchids blooming and waterfalls full-flowing. In the Galápagos Islands, the waters are warmer and calmer, which is ideal for snorkeling and swimming around Isabela Island or Santa Cruz Island.

Summer 2026
During summer (June to August) in Ecuador, the highlands hit their dry-season sweet spot. Around Quito and the famed Avenue of the Volcanoes stretching between volcanos such as Cotopaxi and Cayambe, you’ll enjoy crisp, clear skies, minimal rainfall and excellent trekking conditions. However nights remain cool at altitude and warm layers are essential. On the coast, the weather may feel a little cooler and cloud-ier (especially in places like Esmeraldas) thanks to the Humboldt current, though still warm enough for beach-time and water sports. In the rainforest regions your encounters are less hindered by rain, and animal sightings can be more accessible. This is prime time for hiking in the Andes, touring colonial towns like Cuenca or rafting near the volcano belt. Because it’s a travel peak, early booking is wise.

Autumn 2026
As autumn (September through November) unfolds, Ecuador brings a balance of fewer crowds and lively landscapes. In the highlands, clear skies linger but afternoon showers begin creeping back in, making valleys like those around Cotopaxi and the city of Quito picturesque with golden-light and early cloud build-up. According to travellers, this period is one of the best for combining pleasant weather with fewer tourists. On the coast and the Galápagos, you may find slightly higher temperatures with comfortable beach-days and good conditions for surfing or simply relaxing by the Pacific. In the Amazon and beyond into the Oriente, quieter trails and high water levels still permit boat-based wildlife viewing and kayaks through tributaries. Autumn also offers excellent value on tours and lodging before the high-season festivities begin.

14-Day Inland & Amazon Tour from Quito · Baños, Tena, Papallacta, Otavalo, Cuenca

Just came back and still buzzing. The Amazon portion was unreal: howler monkeys at dawn, night walks, canoe stuff — so cool. Customer support helped me tweak dates — zero stress. Quito start was smooth, transfers on time. Food was good, not fancy, but always tasty. If you’re on the fence, do it.

9-Day Galápagos Island Hopping Tour from Quito · Puerto Ayora, Floreana Island, Isabela Island, Cotopaxi

Really enjoyed the wildlife — sea turtles everywhere and birds I’d never seen before. Snorkeling was legit fun, tho I wish we had a tad more time in the water on a couple of days. Hotels were decent and the overall vibe was relaxed and friendly. Worth it!

10-Day Upgraded Land Galapagos Tour from Quito to Papallacta · San Cristobal Island, Floreana Island, Isabela Island

Galapagos has been on my bucket list forever, and this tour totally delivered. The itinerary hits all the good parts — Quito intro, island wildlife, beach walks, snorkelling and then relaxing at Papallacta hot springs. Loved that the trip was “upgraded” with nice lodges and meals included. Super smooth experience all round. Even better than I expected.
