Best Doune Castle Tours in Autumn

This 14th-century courtyard castle with its 100-foot-high gatehouse, regal Lord’s Hall with musicians' gallery and double fireplace is one of the best-preserved castles in Scotland. Doune Castle has remained largely unchanged since it was built for the Duke of Albany and was a favorite royal hunting lodge, but also of great strategic importance because it controlled the route between the Lowlands and Highlands.
