The recreation area located outside Harvard Square contains paths, a field, historic monuments and the Alexander W. Kemp Playground. The U.S. National Historic Landmark has a plaque noting the elm tree where General George Washington stood when taking charge of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
