How many days should you visit the Amalfi Coast?

We recommend that you spend at least 3-5 days on the Amalfi Coast tours. 3 days is enough time to explore the most famous towns here, such as Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. If you have 5 days or more, you will have the opportunity for more relaxed sightseeing, enjoying the beaches, hiking, and day trips from Amalfi to the nearby islands and historical sites.

Where to stay on the Amalfi Coast

Amalfi: If you are visiting the Amalfi Coast for the first time, it is more convenient to stay in Amalfi Town. This is because it is centrally located with good ferry connections and a relatively flat town center.

Positano: If you prefer a little more special accommodation, this is a cliffside village with unique tiered houses. It features a beautiful beach with lively stores and steep streets.

Ravello: Staying here, you can enjoy the cliffside gardens and the Ravello Festival every summer.

The best way to tour the Amalfi Coast

The roads on the Amalfi Coast are narrow, and access usually relies on several methods:

Ferries: travel between the towns of Positano, Amalfi, and Salerno. Ferries usually operate daily, they offer great sea views from the water, and help to avoid road traffic.

SITA bus: One of the main means of public transportation to the Amalfi Coast, with a daily ticket of €10. The bus also includes stops in Praiano, Positano, and Sorrento. However, traveling by bus can be crowded, especially in high season, and the roads can be slow.

Taxis: offer comfort and flexibility, but cost more. Avoid renting a car due to narrow roads, limited parking, and challenging driving conditions.

Guided tours: if this is your first time here, Amalfi Coast excursions usually include transportation and a guided tour of the main attractions, which simplifies the process of finding a way to get around.

Places to visit in Amalfi

Amalfi has a wonderful selection of attractions. Start with Positano for its colorful and vertically built houses, then visit the Duomo di Sant'Andrea in Amalfi, or Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone in Ravello for a view of the sea and its gardens.

For outdoor enthusiasts, hiking in Sentiero degli Dei will reward you with beautiful views of the coastline, or head to Fiordo di Furore for a swim. Maiori is a quiet town worth visiting if you don't like too many crowds. The nearby Path of the Lemons will take you through lemon groves along the way, and you can sample fresh lemonade.

Nearby attractions of Amalfi

Your Amalfi Coast tours can also be extended to nearby destinations, with a popular day trip from Amalfi to the island of Capri, where you can visit the Blue Grotto and admire the Faraglioni rock formations. Explore the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and the city of Herculaneum, which were well preserved after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The city of Naples can be experienced for its rich history and cuisine.

Local cuisine in Amalfi

One of Amalfi's most famous products is Sfusato Amalfitano, a special kind of lemon. So Limoncello is one of the specialties, a signature lemon liqueur. There is also Delizia al Limone, a lemon sponge cake. And also fresh seafood, traditional pasta, and Cuoppo di Mare are all must-tries.

Best Time to Visit Amalfi Coast

Winter 2026/2027
Winter on the Amalfi Coast is mild but quieter. Daytime highs typically range from 10-15 °C, while nights may drop toward 5-8 °C; rainfall increases, especially in November and December. Many hotels and ferry services scale back, yet towns like Amalfi and Sorrento remain lively with seasonal markets, illuminated cliffsides and cosy trattorias. Coastal walks from Maiori to Minori feel serene and uncrowded, while the quieter waters suit photography or spa visits more than full-on beach days. With reduced tourist traffic, winter rewards explorers with calm boat rides, unhurried hikes over the hills and intimate dinners under softly lit seaside vistas.

Spring 2026
Spring along the Amalfi Coast brings gentle warmth and a lively coastal revival. Daytime highs rise from around 13 °C in March to about 20-22 °C by May, with nights still cooler and rainfall moderate. Towns like Positano and Ravello begin to awaken-the café terraces reopen, lemon groves release fragrance and coastal trails such as the “Path of the Gods” open under fresh skies. Blooming flowers and fewer crowds mean exploring Amalfi’s cathedral, taking a ferry from Sorrento or hiking the hillside villages feels relaxed and scenic. Early boat trips to the island of Capri or beach dips at Cala Luna tease the summer ahead while the climate remains mild and inviting.

Summer 2026
Summer on the Amalfi Coast is radiant and vibrant. Daytime highs average around 25-30 °C and can reach the high 80s °F (30-32 °C) in peak months, with nights typically in the low 20s °C. The Mediterranean sea warms to around 26-27 °C, making swimming, boat excursions and beach lounging around Positano’s Spiaggia Grande popular. Day-trips by ferry from Amalfi or Praiano to Capri’s Blue Grotto and yacht outings are in full swing. Evenings light up with music festivals in Ravello, alfresco dinners overlooking steep cliffs and sunset cruises. However, the heat, sunshine and high season crowds are at their maximum, so mornings and late afternoons are the best times to explore the historic towns and scenic drives along the winding coast.

Autumn 2026
Autumn brings cooler air and a gentler pace across the Amalfi Coast. Early September may still bring 24-26 °C days, but by November highs commonly drop to 14-17 °C and nights turn crisp. The sea remains warm enough for swimming into early October, and the crowds begin to thin. Vineyards near the coast and olive-groves around the hills host harvest-events, while inland towns such as Scala and Vietri sul Mare enjoy chestnut-festivals. Walking tours through Amalfi’s old port, exploring the paper-mill museum or hiking over Furore’s fjord feel comfortable in the milder climate.
