This Virginia city sits along the Potomac River and is located approximately six miles from Washington, D.C. Alexandria was called Hunting Creek Warehouse and Belhaven in the past and was founded in 1749. The city's Old Town neighborhood contains many historic buildings, stores and restaurants. Points of interest are the Mount Vernon Trail, Lee-Fendall House, George Washington Masonic National Memorial and Observation Deck, Market Square, Lone Confederate Soldier Statue, Christ Church, Gadsby's Tavern and Jones Point Lighthouse. George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate is located just outside the city.
