Itinerary through March 31, 2020:
In the morning, we'll journey to the colorful seaside town of New Quay. It may be a little too early for ice cream, but you can still enjoy a stroll along the beautiful beach.
We'll then travel to Laugharne, which may have been the inspiration for Dylan Thomas' famous 'Under Milk Wood'. You'll be more than impressed by the village's towering castle, even if you've never heard of Dylan Thomas. From there we'll head to Carreg Cennen, an imposing fortress perched on top of a hill within Brecon Beacons National Park.
After roaming the ramparts, it's time for something a little more luxurious: Newton House, a palatial building boasting lush gardens, unique architecture, and spine-tingling ghost stories.
We'll arrive back in Aberystwyth in the evening.
Itinerary effective April 01, 2020:
This morning, you can either stay in Caernarfon to explore the magnificent castle, or join us as we head to the Isle of Anglesey. If you choose to come with us, you will cross the world's first modern-day suspension bridge across the Menai Straits and on to Anglesey Island. Prior to the bridge's construction, cattle farmers would have to herd their cattle through the water, across the Menai Straits, to get to the farmer's market. We'll head for the most westerly point of North Wales, to marvel at the South Stack Lighthouse, sea cliffs, and nature reserve. After a refreshing walk along the cliffs and time spent exploring the Isle of Anglesey, we'll return to Caernarfon for a quick lunch stop (own expense). Anyone who stayed in town can join us as we venture to Portmeirion, one of the most charming and unique villages in Wales. This town is the brainchild of
Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis, who wanted to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful location could be developed without spoiling the environment. We'll arrive back in Caernarfon in the early evening.
