Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast this morning before we begin our exploration of the Cradle of the Renaissance - and trust us, you'll need it. Today we'll dig deep into Florence's rich culture, amazing sites, and fascinating history.
Also known as the Athens of the Middle Ages, Florence expanded rapidly as a free Comune and trade hub for Europe. This prosperity allowed patrons and artists to flourish during the Renaissance. You can see evidence of this prosperity in the enchanting monuments and architecture, such as the iconic Duomo.
Our tour will lead us from this famous attraction to the Campanile tower and the Baptistery, home to the spectacular bronze doors where Michelangelo imagined the Gates of Paradise. Next, we'll travel into the heart of the city where we'll encounter Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo della Signoria (also known as Palazzo Vecchio), and the Basilica of Santa Croce.
After a filling lunch in a local Tuscan restaurant in Piazza Santa Croce, you'll be free to explore the cobblestone streets of Florence on your own or join us for an optional excursion to Pisa (own expense), one of the four main historical Marine Republics of Italy.
