Officially called The Richard Riordan Central Library, the Downtown Los Angeles landmark dates back to 1926 and was designed by architect Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue with ancient Egyptian influences. A wing was added in 1993. The Los Angeles Central Library is the third largest public library in the United States in terms of volume.
