Hotel Theresa Map / Location

The 13-story hotel in Harlem that was built from 1912-13 by Gustavus Sidenburg was called "The Waldorf of Harlem" in the 1940s and 1950s as it was social gathering place for the African American community. Famous guests include jazz great Louis Armstrong, actress Josephine Baker, singer Ray Charles, boxer Muhammad Ali, actress Dorothy Dandridge, musician Duke Ellington, rock star Jimi Hendrix, singer Lena Horne and activist Malcolm X. The structure is now an office building and was placed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The building is featured in the films "Topaz" and "Precious."
