Green Mountains Map / Location

These Vermont mountains spread 250 miles from the state's borders with Massachusetts and Quebec. The Green Mountains are part of the Appalachian Mountains and its highest peak is Mount Mansfield at 4,393 feet. Before Vermont became the 14th state, it was known as "The Green Mountain Republic from 1777-91 and also is nicknamed "The Green Mountain State." American Revolutionary War patriot Thomas Young came up with Vermont's name in 1777.
