The fourth largest and the northernmost Bahama island is 95 miles long and a popular tourist location. Grand Bahama Island was claimed in 1670 by the United Kingdom, however, Spanish explorers originally named the island "Gran Bajamar" translated to "Great Shallows." It boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean with turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Grand Bahama Island also has underwater caves, three national parks and plenty of activities.
