14-Day China's Natural Marvels Expedition Private Tour from Beijing: Xi'an, Zhangjiajie, Guilin, Yangshuo and Shanghai

The whole trip was really exciting and well organized. Local guides were very good, especially David, who was an angel to us all. The itinerary covered the major points of interest in China within the short 14-day schedule. The Chinese food that was included was really good. The local guides went out of their way to accommodate some of our needs outside of the tour schedule. My two sisters and I really enjoyed the tour.

FAQs about Li River Tours

Which airport is closest to the Li River Scenic Area and how do I get to Guilin or Yangshuo?

Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (KWL) is the main gateway, located about 28 kilometers from downtown Guilin. Direct airport shuttles and taxis connect to Guilin city center in 40 minutes. To reach Yangshuo, take a high-speed train from Guilin Railway Station to Yangshuo Station, then use the dedicated shuttle bus to West Street.

When is the best time to visit the Li River to see the misty karst mountains without heavy rain?

Visit between April and June for the iconic misty landscape when water levels are high but rainfall is manageable. Avoid July and August due to typhoon risks and intense heat. Winter offers clear skies and fewer crowds, though water levels drop significantly. Check local weather forecasts weekly before booking to avoid sudden flood-related cruise cancellations.

Do I need a specific pass to cruise the Li River from Guilin to Yangshuo?

Yes, you must purchase an official cruise ticket for the four-hour scenic route from Zhujiang Pier to Yangshuo. These tickets include a basic lunch and are sold at the pier or via authorized travel agents. Private bamboo rafting is only permitted on specific tributaries like the Yulong River, not the main Li River channel regulated for large vessels.

What currency should I use for small purchases in Yangshuo and are credit cards widely accepted?

Carry Chinese Yuan (CNY) cash for street food, bicycle rentals, and small shops in Yangshuo and rural villages. While hotels and larger restaurants accept Visa or Mastercard, many local vendors do not have card terminals or mobile payment setups for foreign tourists. Withdraw cash at ATMs in Guilin or Yangshuo town before heading to remote scenic spots.
