Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrival Day: Airport Shuttle/1st Night of Hostel Accommodation
This will be your arrival day with all of the action starting on the following Monday morning. This means you need to be in Melbourne for the Sunday night before, at the latest.

Landing a few days before? No worries! Your airport pickup is included for any day before the tour and we can organise any required extra nights at the accommodation.

You will be invited to a WhatsApp group a week before your tour starts, so you can arrange to meet up with people from the tour beforehand if you want to.

Day 2: Meet & Greet/City Tour/Phone, Bank Account & TFN Set Up/Welcome Meal & Drink
Our morning Meet & Greet is when you will get the chance to meet everyone, including the guide, and get to know your new travel family. Following this, we will take care of organising your bank account, phone number and Tax File Number. This means that you're organised for your life in Australia from the very start, so you can spend the rest of the time exploring.

After that, it's time for us to take you on a guided tour of Melbourne where you'll learn why so many travellers love this incredibly diverse city.

We'll end the day with a group Welcome Meal (dinner included) in one of Melbourne's most iconic settings.

INCLUDED MEALS: Dinner & 1 Drink.

Day 3: Queen Victoria Market/Aboriginal Heritage Walk/Royal Botanical Gardens/Street Art, Food & Drink Tour
The food and drink scene in Melbourne is ridiculously good, so we dedicate the day to it.

We start with a local favourite, Queen Victoria Market. This place is a feast for all senses and we spend the morning meeting local vendors and exploring everything this Melbournian institute has to offer.

Before starting our very own street art, food and drink tour, complete with tastings (and dinner) we learn about Australia's Indigenous people, with an insightful Aboriginal Heritage Walk through Melbourne's Royal Botanical Gardens.

This day is all about seeing Melbourne through a local's eyes, our travellers love it and so will you!

INCLUDED MEALS: Snacks+Tasters, Dinner & 2 Drinks.

Day 4: Mt Martha Beach/Wine Tasting/Phillip Island Penguins
Sure we want you to experience this fantastic city, but we also want you to see its beautiful surroundings. Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island are two of the most incredible yet less-explored spots in Australia.

We will be having some much needed BEACH time, we'll be WINE tasting, heading to spectacular SCENIC lookouts and to finish the day off, we'll be watching over 500 PENGUINS run across the beach. Yes, you read that right!

INCLUDED MEALS: 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner & Wine Tastings at Vineyard.

Day 5: Surf Lesson/Secret Inclusion/Wildlife Park
Australia is known for its famous SURF and this is the day that you'll tick another Australian bucket-list item as you learn how to ride a wave. This day includes a few hidden secrets along the way, but the main thing you need to know is that you will get the chance to get up close to KOALAS, KANGAROOS and other adorable Australian creatures. Another bucket list item ticked - two in one day!

INCLUDED MEALS: 1 Lunch.

Day 6: St Kilda Beach
It is time to start thinking about what you’ll do next with your time in Australia. In the morning, we'll be having a presentation on EMPLOYMENT for everyone on a Student or Working Holiday Visa (travellers on a Visitor Visa don’t have the right to work in Australia).

We'll cover absolutely everything before focusing on TRAVEL tips. We'll tell you everything you need to know about travelling within this incredible country so you can make the most of your time on this side of the world.

Melbourne has many celebrated suburbs and St Kilda is as famous as they get. We'll head to this quaint beach suburb taking in its iconic promenade, alfresco cafes and famous landmarks. The afternoon will be spent getting food at one of the many delicious cafes and lazing on the beach.

Day 7: One-on-One Work & Travel Session/Free Time/Bar Crawl
Do you want to go in to work straight away or do you want to travel? Either way we will get you organised! Saturday is the perfect time to look at everything you will need to sort out for after your first week in Australia with us.

We'll go through all of our job resources including resume writing tips, our extensive employer database and farm-work opportunities, as well as show you how to explore this magnificent country.

This will be done in a group setting (during Day 6 presentation) AND in a one-on-one setting (Dat 7) meaning you'll leave with all of your questions answered!

What do we need after that? To join Melbourne's biggest bar crawl of course.

INCLUDED MEALS: 4 Drinks & Pizza.

Day 8: Rooftop BBQ & Farewell Drinks
And just like that, it's nearly over.

What better way to spend our final Sunday afternoon together than lazing on a rooftop overlooking the city with your new travel family? We’ll crank up the BBQ, hand out the beers and soak up the skyline as we talk about memories made over the best week of your life.

Accommodation at the hostel on Sunday night is not included as part of the tour, but we are happy to arrange extra nights upon request (this can be done while travellers are on tour).

INCLUDED MEALS: Dinner & Drink.

  • Do I need a visa to come to Australia?Yes! There are both tourist and working holiday visas available and which you pick would depend on where you’re from, how long you’re staying in Australia and what your plans are for your visit.
  • How do I apply for a visa?We recommend organising this as soon as possible. The application can be competed through your travel agent, or directly through the Australian Government website, which is here.
We would always recommend checking Australian Government website for any specific inquiries.
  • Why do I need a bank account? If you’re travelling as a tourist for a few weeks you don’t, a pre-loaded travel cash card would suffice. If you’re here for a prolonged period then it’s highly recommended.
Not only will you save a lot on exchange/transaction fees but employers will only pay wages in to an Australian account. It’s also an extremely easy process that we will co-ordinate. Once you’ve transferred your budget from your home account to your Australian account, you’re ready to go.
  • How much money would you recommend bringing? This depends on trip length, your travel style (backpacker or flashpacker) and what are your bucket list items while here.
Australia is a huge country with a lot to do and it’s important you save enough prior to coming, or enough to get you through the first few weeks without work if working is your first priority.
Something we always use when travelling is this great cost of living website. It’s accurate and is constantly updated by people yourself, travelers!
  • How much will I need for food and drinks on Welcome to Travel: Melbourne?Food: Both your first and last (Monday and Sunday) dinners of the week are included, as well as dinner on Tuesday’s food tour. Lunch is also included on the second day (Thursday) of the 2 day tour down to Mornington and Phillip Island. After that we’d allow $6-15 for lunch and $12-$20 for dinner should you want to eat out all the time. Most people end up cooking in their group on a night.
Drinks: Both the welcome and farewell meal will include a drink, your food tour will include two and the the bar crawl four, pretty good going! Aside from that drinks will average at $7-11 but we can also point you to plenty of happy hours at $5/6 a drink, so it really depends how often you want to go out in that first week.
  • What is a tax file number? This is basically your identity number for the Australian Tax Office and is required so you can be correctly taxed on your income from day one. You will provide this to each employers you have while here and your tax will be deducted from your wage accordingly, just as it would be in your home country.
  • When will I receive my Australian Sim Card? You will receive your Australian sim card on your second morning. This is when we will go through all your admin needs (employment help, tax file number, bank account) for your time in Australia.
Don’t panic, you will be able to jump on wi-fi to let everyone back home, that you got to Melbourne safe and sound.
  • What is Medicare and how do I organise it?Medicare is Australia’s subsidised health system and as part of reciprocal agreement between the two countries, only residents of the UK are eligible to have Medicare. We will help you with this set up on day two of Welcome to Travel: Melbourne.
  • How will I find a job? With our help, that’s how! As part of your Welcome to Travel: Melbourne package you will receive our two-part employment guide. One part is about the tips and advice on finding a job, and the second part is exclusive access to our portfolio of employers in several sectors such as hospitality, construction, sales and marketing and many more.
  • What happens after Welcome to Travel: Melbourne? That’s up to you! Everyone travels differently and will have different plans. Your plan may well change in the Welcome to Travel: Melbourne week after meeting some new friends. We’re there for advice all week and whether it’s work or travel you’re looking to organize after, we’re able to help with both. It’s totally up to you, #thisisyourweek.
  • I’ve never stayed in a dorm before, what should I expect?Expect the best experience ever! As long as you’re polite and friendly then you’ll be fine. To get the best out of your experience we recommend talking to people in your dorm as soon as possible. Travel broadens the mind and that is mainly because of people you meet. Listen to where they’ve been, what they’ve loved, what they recommend, their funniest stories, all of it! This will be you in a few months!
Sure from time to time you may have a cliché guitar player, a snorer or a 6am deodorant sprayer (you’ll know what I mean soon!) but that’s all part of travelling and they’ll form your stories and travel experiences!
All dorms have lockers, but you will need to buy a small padlock to use them.
We aim to try and get everyone on Welcome To Melbourne in the same dorm, but if you have any special requests such as, you want to be in an all female dorm or you want to upgrade to your own room. Then will be able to assist you.
