Today you'll arrive in Turkey and transfer to the hotel on your own. You'll be free to explore or relax on your own, but remember to be back in time for the group meeting where we'll go over the itinerary and our travel plans with your Certified Experience Officer (CEO).

Istanbul

Istanbul

Begin the day in Istanbul with an orientation walk. Each walk varies, allowing your CEO to show off their favorite spots around the city. Pass by city highlights such as the Topkapi Palace, the Aya Sofya, and the Blue Mosque. Walks may also include a wander past the atmospheric Spice Bazaar, the newly renovated Galata Bridge, which has a great view of Golden Horn, and the Bosphorus shore, a stretch that's home to many bars.

In the evening we'll take an overnight bus to Cappadocia.

Cappadocia

Cappadocia

Enjoy free time to explore Cappadocia on your own or join a trekking tour through one of the beautiful valleys guided by the CEO. Ask the CEO about the many other walking and hiking options available in the area.

There will be the chance to visit a local pottery center - take the opportunity to create your own masterpiece. Watch a carpet demonstration to learn more about the process involved in making these Turkish works of art or go to a Turkish performance with group members to experience a taste of local dances and music.

Göreme Open Air Museum Visit - 30TRY per person
Explore the unique Open Air Museum, a site made up of a number medieval painted cave churches. Carved out by Orthodox monks, many of the churches are up to 1,000 years old and still retain amazing colour and vibrancy.

Hot Air Balloon Ride - 150EUR per person
Cappadocia is captivating from the ground, but that’s just the half of it. See the seemingly hand-painted landscapes of Cappadocia as they deserve to be seen, from the air aboard a hot air balloon. Get up early and enjoy a simple breakfast before climbing in the basket and taking to the skies in one of the most favoured places in the world to experience a hot air balloon ride.

Cappadocia Trekking Tour - Free
Explore Cappadocia by foot and trek past old houses, churches, and orchards, all boasting fabulous views. Finish the trek in the town of Uçhisar, which is well worth exploring. Be sure to see the natural castle-like fortress that's riddled with man-made cave homes and dovecotes, and dominates the skyline of Cappadocia. This is a great place to take a lunch break in one of the many restaurants before catching a local bus back to Göreme.

Attend a "Turkish night" and enjoy a delicious multi-course meal followed by local entertainment.

Turkish Bath - 85TRY per person
Take along a towel, soap, and shampoo, and enjoy a scrub like no other. Then experience a traditional foam massage, included in the entrance fee. Get some tips from the friendly locals – they’ll show you the correct protocol. Make sure to check the hours as the bathhouses are strictly segregated, usually being used by men in the morning and evenings, and women in the afternoons.

Whirling Dervishes - 50TRY per person
Witness this spellbinding dance-like worship, practiced by followers of the Mevlevilik Sufi order.

Pottery Center Visit - Free

Olympos

Antalya - Olympos

Hotel: Ayisigi Pansiyon or similar

Upon arrival to Antalya, we'll set off for a journey along the coast to Olympos. Passing through the stark Anatolian landscape, enter the richly forested mountain region which leads to the coast and the small village of Olympos. Relax and enjoy the beaches of Olympos. Or set off on a walk to see the flames of Mount Olympos at night.

There is time to relax and hit the beach before taking a short drive in the evening to Olympos Mountain. Enjoy a brief walk to see the spectacle of the chimera, a phenomenon where flames mysteriously rise from cracks within the local rocks.

Day 07

Olympos - Kekova

Today we'll begin our journey Kekova, taking a bus trip this coastal village.

Then we'll set sails for an overnight trip off the gorgeous coast of Turkey (dinner is included and cold drinks can be purchased). Sleep on deck under the stars, with mattresses and full bedding provided; there is a toilet and an open-air (cold) shower on board. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the crystal clear waters Turkey is famous for.

Please note that even during these months the overnight boat trip will still be dependent on weather conditions. The facilities are very basic on board.
Day 08
Iztuzu Beach

Kekova - Dalyan

Back on land at Ucagiz, we'll travel up to the charming Dalyan. While here, hit the mud baths, or swim and chill out at the beach.

Opt to embark on a boat excursion for a close-up view of the famous Carian rock tombs and some remains of the ancient city of Kaunos and Dalyan. Cruising to Iztuzu Beach, past rock faces peppered with ancient tombs, there is time to relax at the beach and enjoy a cold drink. There is also the chance to visit to some local mud baths.

Pamukkale

Pamukkale

Hotel: Pamuksu Hotel or similar

Time to leave sea level behind, passing through fruit orchards we make our way to Pamukkale. In the afternoon, opt to visit the famous white cliffs of Pamukkale.

We also have the opportunity to explore the ancient site of Hierapolis built on top of the white "castle". This UNESCO World Heritage Site is evidence that the hot springs of Pamukkale were used as a spa since the 2nd century BC.

Hierapolis and Pamukkale Visit - 35TRY per person
Tour the white cliffs of Pamukkale to learn about this World Heritage-listed site and natural wonder. Made up of 17 hot water springs, the cliffs are formed when the calcium carbonate hardens with time. Explore the ancient site of Hierapolis built on top of the white "castle." See the large, ancient baths within the city (thought to be evidence that the hot springs of Pamukkale were used as a spa since second century BC).

Swim in an Ancient Pool - 32TRY per person
Take a plunge into an ancient swimming pool, preserved from the second century BC. Wade around in the thermally heated fresh mineral water around fallen marble columns, capitals, and plinths said to have come from the nearby Temple of Apollo.

Hierapolis Archaeological Museum - 5TRY per person
This museum displays works of art from excavations at Hierapolis, as well as towns in the surrounding area, such as jewelry, sarcophagi and Bronze Age crafts. Housed within a former Roman Bath and gymnasium, this museum has will grab the interest of art, history and architecture lovers alike.

Selcuk

Selcuk

Today we'll head to the coastal town of Selcuk and check out the sights.

While here, opt to visit the ruins of the ancient Roman town of Ephesus. One of the foremost cities of the world in its time, with a strategic location on the trade route, this well-preserved city is one of the best places in the world to get a real feeling of what life must have been like during Roman times.

Other options include a walk up to the remains of the St John Basilica, visit the mosque of Isa Bey or just wander the streets and cafes of this vibrant Turkish town. Catch a local “dolmus” bus 8kms to the picturesque village of Sirince where you can sample some of the local wine or shop for crafts. The beach at Pamucak is also within reach for the dedicated sunseekers.

Ephesus Visit - 40TRY per person
Tour the ruins of ancient Ephesus to get a feeling of what life must have been like during Roman times. Take in its massive, well-preserved theatre, which dominates the view down Harbour Street. See the two-story library, whose facade has been carefully reconstructed from all original pieces. Built in AD 125, it once held nearly 12,000 scrolls.

Saint John's Basilica Visit - 10TRY per person
View St John's Basilica, once a grand basilica in Ephesus. Constructed by Justinian I in the 6th century, it was built in where John the Apostle is said to be buried.

Mosque of Isa Bey Visit - Free
Visit the centuries-old Isa Bey Mosque on the outskirts of Selçuk to see one of the oldest and most impressive works of art remaining in this region.

Şirince Village Visit - Free
Head out to scenic Şirince, a Turkish-Greek village that was settled when Ephesus was abandoned; it’s now 600 strong. Wander the narrow village streets filled with people selling handicrafts, olive oil, and local wine.

Slope Houses of Ephesus - 20TRY per person
Located on the slope of a hill, the terrace houses of Ephesus give you a glimpse into the life of wealth of ancient Ephesians. With the oldest house dating back to 1 BC, the excavation process is still ongoing. There is still so much to discover here.

House of the Virgin Visit - 20TRY per person
Believed to be the house inhabited by the Virgin Mary after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, this place has become a site for pilgrimage site for Catholics far and wide.

Canakkale

Troy - Canakkale

Today we'll travel north to Canakkale, where you'll be free to explore on your own or opt to visit the world famous Troy.

In the afternoon, you can choose to visit Gallipoli, where thousands gave their lives during WWI in the battle of the same name.

Enjoy the harbor town of Canakkale, a busy port with a thriving student population. Join the crowds as they stroll the waterfront nightly, enjoying the atmosphere of the night.

Troy Visit - 25-65TRY per person
See historic Troy, made famous by Homer’s “Iliad,” (and more recently by Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt). Tour the city that, for centuries, was regarded as just a myth, until its ruins were found in in the mid-19th century. Imagine what a great city this must have been, while taking a tour of the remains. Don't miss the chance to have a photo taken with the Trojan horse.

Gallipoli Battlefields Guided Tour - 40TRY per person
Visit this moving and beautiful site, a great complement to any trip to Turkey, even for those not familiar with the Battle of Gallipoli. Tour the grounds to see ANZAC Cove, the war cemeteries, and Lone Pine. Learn how the Turks fought off the numerically superior, but badly commanded, Allied forces who were forced to withdraw nine months later; this battle holds special significance for Australians and New Zealanders, as both nations lost many soldiers.
