The divine structure of the Uffizi Gallery Museum is itself a work of art worthy of being part of its collection that contains pieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Cimabue, Giotto and Raffaello. The U-shaped building was commissioned by Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I de' Medici in 1560 for government offices for Florence and designed by Giorgio Vasari. After Vasari's death, the building was finished by Bernardo Buontalenti and it was gradually turned into a gallery in the 1580s. Uffizi Gallery opened to the public in 1769 and it now has more than one million visitors per year.
