Within the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area rests Tonala, a city popular for its pottery, street markets, and handcrafted goods. Prior to the arrival of the Spanish in the 1530s, a woman called Cihualpilli Tzapotzinco ruled the region under her dominion and a statue stands at the foot of Cerro de la Reina, also known as Queen's Hill, to honor her memory.
