About Reno

As its lighted neon arch sign indicates, Reno is "The Biggest Little City in the World" and is located in the Nevada desert at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Reno was founded in 1868 named after Civil War Gen. Jesse Reno and grew to be known as "Sin City" in the 1900s for its gambling houses, divorce trade and legal brothels. In addition to its casino resorts, Reno has many notable landmarks such as Lake Mansion, Virginia Street Bridge, Riverside Hotel and The Birthplace of Blue Jeans. Lake Tahoe and Truckee River provide the opportunity for many water recreation activities.
