Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument was first made a U.S. National Cemetery and later named a national monument in 1946 to remember those who lost their lives in one of the most famous battles in United States history. The 765-plus acre monument contains Custer National Cemetery, where many 7th Cavalry soldiers are buried. Famous Gen. George Custer was buried there until his remains were re-located to West Point Cemetery.
