A narrow gorge along the Fraser River in British Columbia, Hell's Gate creates a passage of only 35 meters (114 feet) wide, causing river waters to form sudden rapids. Historically the passage has been a valuable fishing area for Aboriginal communities and an important route for gold miners looking to access upper country beyond Fraser Canyon. Visitors to the gorge can access the Hell's Gate Airtram from the Trans-Canada Highway and cross the river while receiving a panorama of Fraser Canyon.
