Hallein Salt Mine dates back to 600 B.C. when the Celts mined for salt, also referred to as "White Gold." Salt mining operations lasted at the site until 1989 and it was opened as a tourist attraction in 1994. Today, visitors can ride a mining train, venture down slides and go rafting on an underground salt lake!
