Not far from Lake Myvatn is the Grjotagja cave, a small subterranean thermal springs. The roof exterior of the cave looks like a large fissure, but within rests a wondrous natural hot springs that has been used by travelers for centuries. It was popular until the 1970s when the volcanic eruptions increased the temperature above safe levels, but it has been steadily decrease over the years, resulting in its growing appeal as a tourist attraction. The cave was utilized for a scene in Game of Thrones to depict a hot springs north of the fictional Wall.
