Godollo dates back to the 14th century when it was separated from the Besnyõ settlement. Nobleman Antal Grassalkovich I played an important role in Godollo's development as he began building his palace in 1735 and continued to expand his property. Godollo also was the site of the Hungarian Art Deco artist colony between 1901-20.
