Named after Ecuador's first president Juan Jose Flores, this 67-square mile island was site where the first Galapagos resident Patrick Watkin settled from 1807-1809. Floreana Island also had the archipelago's first post office in 1793 after it was opened by whalers. It was the first of the Galapagos to be settled by Ecuadorians in 1832. The island hosts popular snorkeling spots for travelers - especially the underwater volcanic cone of Devil's Crown.
