This remarkable cultural institution in Cody, Wyoming has five museums and a research library containing exhibits and art on the American West. Buffalo Bill Center of the West, formerly called Buffalo Bill Historical Center, was established in 1917 to preserve the memory of Col. William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody. It is the oldest and features the most extensive collection of all of the American West museums. The center also is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institute.
