The unincorporated community in British Columbia was created from 1900-04 as a location for Britannia Mining and Smelting Co. employees to live. Britannia Beach was named after Britannia Mountain where copper was discovered in 1888 and the Britannia Mine was soon established. It is a National Historic Site of Canada and features the Britannia Mine Museum. Britannia Beach also attracts many tourists for its recreational activities such as hiking, boating and skiing.
