About Amsterdam Canals

Amsterdam is often referred to as "The Venice of the North" because of its more than 60 miles of canals. The three canals of Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht were created in the 17th Century and form a ring that was designed a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site. Amsterdam's canals contain nearly 90 islands and are crossed by approximately 1,500 bridges. The city offers many scenic canal cruises.
