The network of five bridges US-1 and I-395 over the Potomac River to connect Arlington, Virginia with Washington, D.C. The 14th Street Bridge started out as the wooden Long Bridge in 1809 and it was rebuilt in 1816 after being set afire in 1814 during the War of 1812. The bridge complex's Rochambeau Bridge created in 1950 was renamed the Arland D. Williams Jr. Memorial Bridge after the namesake Air Florida Flight 90 passenger died while saving other people after the plane crashed into the bridge and then the river on Jan. 13, 1982.
