Summary of The Day: Head just outside of Sydney to visit Tobruk Sheep Station, an authentic Australian farm where you can learn all about life in the outback. Let our stockmen guides lead you through interactive outback experiences such as:
Sheep Muster & Yardwork
The mustering of the sheep to specific locations around the property requires the patience and skill of the stockman and the sheep dogs. The stockman provides the direction and the dogs carry out their orders.
The sheep are mustered and moved to the stockyards for drafting; this is often very lively and comical as sheep can be unpredictable and the dogs often need to work ‘overtime’ to achieve their objective. A demonstration is then given on the drafting of sheep through the yards by the dogs.
A demonstration by our shearer on the art of shearing a sheep is conducted in the most unique shearing shed in Australia...
The history of shearing and life of the shearer is explained in an both and educational and entertaining manner. Members of audience often have the opportunity to try their hand at shearing a sheep where the participants work with the experienced shearer under strict guidance...
Whip Cracking & Boomerang Throwing Demonstration (for Economy/Standard/Premium option)
Used by the stockman to assist in the mustering process, the cracking of a whip is not as easy as it looks. The cracking of the whip is achieved by the “cracker” breaking the sound barrier. Our experienced stockman will entertain you...
The Aboriginal technique of boomerang throwing follows the whip cracking demonstration. Originally used as a hunting weapon, the boomerang at Tobruk is demonstrated and used as a recreational device only!
Billy Tea & Damper (for Economy/Standard/Premium option)
The traditional refreshment for stockman and drovers is served in this unique setting. A tasty mug of steaming hot tea is consumed the old way, which is straight, without milk and sugar, although these are provided for those that have the need...
Billy Tea is always best accompanied by a fresh damper and you wont miss out on this at Tobruk Sheep Station. In colonial Australia, stockman developed the technique of making damper out of necessity...
Whip Cracking & Boomerang Throwing Participation (for Premium/Afternoon option)
You can try your hand at whip cracking and boomerang throwing demonstrated by the stockman earlier in the day.
Our whips are usable by all ages and we have boomerangs available for both left and right handed people. If directions are followed, the boomerang should return to the thrower and the whips should crack!
Aussie BBQ Lunch (for Standard/Premium/Afternoon option)
We'll enjoy lunch at our rustic outdoor Drover’s Camp with views of the station. Meal consists of BBQ steak, onion, chat potatoes, garden salad, bush tucker condiments, with damper & golden syrup, tea & coffee for dessert.
