Vietnam is officially referred to as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. They regained independence from China in 938 AD after winning the Battle of Bach Dang River (938). Subsequently, it was colonized by the French in the mid-19th until the mid-20th century. Because of the ongoing strife, it divided the nation into two sides and ended on the conclusion of the Vietnam War where the Communists won in 1975.
