South Buenos Aires Bike Tour

Explore the south city center of Buenos Aires with this 4-hour cycling tour. Pedal at a comfortable pace through San Telmo, Puerto Madero and La Boca. Listen to engaging commentary from your cycling guide about the history, culture, architecture, food and people of Buenos Aires. Learn about tango and "fútbol", the twin passions of the local citizens, through a visit to 'el Caminito', a colorful pedestrianized street and center for the local arts.

The adventure begins in Plaza de Mayo, the historic square at the center of the city. Head south to San Telmo, the first “barrio” of colonial Buenos Aires, where the cobblestone streets and collection of churches are just the start of its magic and warmth. A true cradle of bohemian culture.

From San Telmo, you'll ride to the modern metropolis of Puerto Madero with it's high rise buildings, chic port side dining and wonderful green spaces. It's easy to understand why it’s some of the most valuable real estate in the city. Pedaling a bit further south, you'll pass by La Bombonera (home of the Boca Juniors football team) on your way to the vibrant community of La Boca, the first port of the city and a must-see Buenos Aires attraction.

Heading to the area best known for its most famous street “Caminito” lined with quaint and colorful houses, you’ll discover two of the most popular expressions of Argentinian culture, tango and football.

Then, turn your wheels back to the city passing through popular Parque Lezama, and end your tour back in San Telmo.

Comfortable shoes and clothes are recommended for this activity. Hat and sunblocker too, during the summer season.

The tour goes along bike-lanes 90% of the time, and the terrain is mostly flat, so this excursion is suitable for riders of all levels.

Our tours use the safest routes possible. We try to ride on dedicated cycle paths or on quieter streets. We appreciate that for some people the idea of cycling in a big city like Buenos Aires can be a daunting prospect so our guides make every effort to reassure any worries and build confidence. By the end of the tour we are positive that you will have a smile on your face and agree that a bicycle is the best way to get around Buenos Aires!

  • Is a bicycle the best way to see Buenos Aires?
A bike is by far the best way to see Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires is a very flat city with mostly one directional streets. By bicycle you can get to places easily and quickly. You can see more by bike in a few hours than you ever could on foot or by bus!
  • How big are your groups?
We like to keep our groups small to ensure your safety and enjoyment. Depending upon the day of the week, groups are generally no more than 6 riders, if we do have a few more we will always send a second trail guide to ride at the back.
  • Why ride with Rental Bike Argentina?
We do our utmost best to ensure maximum enjoyment on your day discovering Buenos Aires. Our group sizes are limited to 6 riders so that everyone can hear the guide and remains safe on the road. We also keep the bikes in the best possible condition and check them before every tour to try and minimize break downs and our guides are also trained mechanics so they can do there best to manage on the road bike issues.
  • What if I haven’t ridden a bike in years?
The expression ‘as easy as riding a bike’ was coined for a reason. You will be amazed how quickly cycling comes back to you and you’ll be at ease in no time. Our South and North tours are our easiest tours if you feel like easing your self back into the saddle. There is plenty of time at the beginning of the tour to get used to the bicycle. Please note, unfortunately we do not have time on tours to teach people to ride a bike completely from scratch.
  • What if I am late?
We understand that traveling around a new city can mean delays or public transport in the city can let you down. If you are running late and you are going to miss the start time of your tour please let us know. Here in Buenos Aires we have something called Argentime, which means if you are running a bit behind we will wait but Please let us know on +54 9 11 3328 9289 also if your having trouble finding our shop. If your running so late that you will totally miss the start of the tour and you let us know we will do our best to schedule you on to another tour subject to availability.
  • Do I have to wear a bike helmet?
It’s not the law in the Argentina to wear a helmet but we strongly recommend it and have bike helmets available if you would like to wear one. Its entirely your own personal decision.
  • What do you require for independent bike hire?
We will need you to sign a standard hire agreement and leave a passport, ID card, driving license or credit card with us as security for the duration of the hire.
  • Are tours suitable for children?
Our daily bike tours are open to all people who are 5ft+ tall (1.5m) and are comfortable riding on some quieter streets and in bike lanes. For families with smaller children we offer Private specialized Tours. Family tours are tailored specifically to the cycle ability and interests of the group, with kids bikes and seats for the back of our regular bikes.
