Summary of The Day: Today we'll begin our amazing Tanzania Safari as we depart Arusha! As we travel out of the city we'll stop in the Karatu district to discover a coffee plantation and learn about the daily lives of the people living around the community and across the rift valley over.
From here we'll head out to the the land of the Hadzabe people and make camp for our first night.
Summary of The Day: In the morning we'll have the chance to travel with the Hadzabe people on a hunting trip to learn their traditions and how they hunt in the rift valley.
In the afternoon we'll enjoy lunch at the camp before heading out on a scenic drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We'll make camp at the top of the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest calderra in the world.
Summary of The Day: Early in the morning we'll decend into the crater to discover the amazing wildlife that live here, including the Big 5. Unfilled and inactive, Ngorongoro Crater has developed its own ecosystem over the ages and includes a diverse region of forests, plains, lakes, and springs. Fed by a handful of springs and seasonal rainfall, life has fluruoush in the crater to include buffalo, hippopotamus, wildebeests, zebra, and much, much more!
From here we'll head to the highlight of the tour: Serengeti National Park, site of the world famous Great Migration.
We'll spend our first night in the park.
Summary of The Day: Get ready for a full day devoted to exploring the Serengeti! Discover why this region is one of the most popular for African safaris!
As we head out on our game drive through Tanzania's oldest national park and its almost endless plains we'll encounter a variety of animals, including the famous Big 5. We'll also get to spot gazelles, wildebeests, hyenas, baboons, and giraffes! Make sure to bring extra batteries for your camera!
We'll return to the camp before sunset to relax and enjoy dinner.
Summary of The Day: Today we'll travel to the southern part of the Serengeti which are the popular birthing grounds during the Great Migration. If we arrive in February we'll have the chance to see nearly 8,000 wildebeests birthed every day!
After exploring the wildlife here we'll return to our camp in the evening for dinner.
Summary of The Day: After breakfast we'll head out on another game drive to the northern portion of the park where the giant crocodiles of the Serengeti reside in the park's woodlands. Living in the Grumet River, which cuts through this region, these massive crocodiles survive off the local game and thrive during the Great Migration when thousands upon thousands of wildebeests cross the river to mate in the south. These crocodiles can grow up to 17 feet long and are extremely powerful predators.
After exploring the river we'll head back to the camp for dinner.
Summary of The Day: Today we'll cross the park to the Lobo area of the north where two expansive prides of lions make their home and rest out atop the nearby rocks and hills. The whole day will be devoted to spot this majestic and powerful animals.
We'll head back the camp in the evening.
Summary of The Day: Today we'll say farewell to the Serengeti and head west along the Kenya-Tanzania border towards Lake Natron. An expansive salt lake in the north of Tanzania, this lake is the only regular breeding ground for the Lesser Flamingo, an endangered bird that survives off the algae that grows throughout the lake. Here we'll learn about the bird's life cycle and its connection to the lake.
We'll camp near the lake tonight.
Summary of The Day: Wake up early today to explor ethe rift valley today and get to watch the sunrise over the lake. A more leisurely day, we'll get to swim in the gorgeous waterfalls riddled throughout the rift valley.
Summary of The Day: Today we'll visit another great lake of Tanzania: Lake Manyara. Described by Hemingway as the "loveliest lake...in Africa," we'll discover it for ourselves on a scenic drive through the surrounding national park. Along the way we'll see a wide variety of birds that live off the algae in the lake, including thousands of pink flamingos.
At the lake we'll have the chance to bike along its shores and visit teh local villages. Take this chance to sample the local wines and delicacies.
In the evening we'll return to Arusha for dinner.
Summary of The Day: Our amazing Tanzania safari must come to an end today as we say our farewells and depart for the airport.
