Summary of The Day: Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our guide will pick you up and transfer you to the town of Mbarara. From here we'll head to the Rwenzori Mountains, aka the Mountains of the Moon, and arrive at our hotel, Margherita, for dinner.
Summary of The Day: Today we'll begin our hike through the Rwenzori Mountains, departing early in the morning to for a transfer to Nyakalengija. From here we'll head to Ibanda to start your 5-6 hour climb into the mountains.
Your climb will take you through thick Equatorial vegetation before arriving at the Nyabitaba Hut 2650 meters in the late evening. It is a 5 hours ascent to Nyabitaba Hut, passing first through cultivation then through Forest.
Summary of The Day: Today is the longest and most strenuous day’s walk; expect it to take a minimum of seven hours .
After breakfast we'll begin our morning hike. From Nyabitaba hut the path descends through forest for a short time before it crosses the Bujuku River at the Kurt Schafer bridge. We'll travel through the Kurt Shafer Bridge to see the sparkling Mobuku River conflux. The path is good for the first couple of hours, but it becomes steeper and very rocky as you enter the moorland zone where heather plants are prolific.
We'll stop for lunch at Nyamileju Hut. From here we'll climb through the open patches, Lobelia, and heath moss forest before take a 2 hours' walk to the John Matte Hut, where we'll spend the night.
Summary of The Day: After breakast we'll pass by the giant Lobelias and heath trees as we continue our climb up to the Bigo Bog and enjoy panoramic views of Lobelias and the gigantic Groundsels. This will take up to five hours, depending on the condition of the two Bigo Bogs, which are often knee-deep in mud.
On the way to the hut you will pass Lake Bujuku, which has a magnificent setting between Mounts Stanley, Speke and Baker. From here we'll arrive at Bujuku Hut (3997 meters) for dinner.
Summary of The Day: We'll leave in the the early morning and head into the valley which is filled with scenic alpine vegetation, consisting of huge Groundsels and Lobelia. Then we'll ascend Mount Victoria and Mount Speke at 4890 meters, enjoying stunning views of the region. Here we'll make our camp for the night.
Summary of The Day: From Mount Speke we'll head pass by Savoia and Elena glaciers, enjoying amazing views of the region.
We'll climb further through the Scott Elliott Pass (4372 meters) and proceed through the snow to the Elena hut for overnight rest.
Summary of The Day: We'll wake up early in the morning to climb to the snowy Alexander Peak (5092m) and then move onwards to the Margherita Peak at (5109m) which offers unmatched views of the region. Make sure to bring your camera to take a triumphic, victory photo!
From here we'll descend to the beautiful Lake Kitandara for overnight stay at Kitandara Hut (3900m).
Summary of The Day: After early breakfast, the plunge starts. We'll have a picnic luncheon on your way to Guy Yeoman Hut for dinner and overnight’s rest.
Summary of The Day: We'll finish our descent to to Nyabitaba and proceed to Ibanda. From here we'll drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Summary of The Day: We'll begin today with a game drive to the Kasenyi track and Queens Mile. Expect to see elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and numerous birds as we explore Queen Elizabeth National Park. Then we'll head back to the lodge for breakfast and to relax.
After lunch we'll take a cruise along Kazinga Channel to spot hippos and crocodiles along the shore.
We'll end the day with dinner back at the lodge.
