My wife and I recently did the 7 day Southwest Adventure tour with Bindlestiff. The company provides incredible itineraries and opportunities to see many beautiful places in a short amount of time. Our guide (John Harris) was tremendous. I ..cannot imagine how difficult it is to keep 12 other adults on task to accomplish such a monumental 7 day adventure. He was flexible and really good at his job. We were able to see so many iconic sights in the Western US (Vegas Strip, Zion NP, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Moab, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, and more). It was not only the BIG things that made the trip special but also the OTHER things like: getting to meet cool people in the group, eating dinner at an authentic Navajo Indian's personal residence, seeing the sun rise at Monument Valley and set at the Grand Canyon during the same day, accomplishing hikes you were not sure you could complete, etc. The company was very attentive to my questions before the trip. There is nothing negative about the experience, the company, or the guide that I could say. The only comments that I would make to inform people thinking about this type of trip is just to understand the ins and outs of what you are getting into. My wife and I stayed in hotels. Understand that you should NOT just choose the camping option, just to save money. If you are NOT campers, I would not choose camping as an option. In the summer, it will be HOT on this trip. At certain places (Bryce), it will get COLD at night. If I were the company, I would likely do separate trips for the campers and the "lodgers". It does put a bit of a strain on the guides to coordinate both. Also understand that you will be in a 15 passenger van with 12 other people.Sometimes, things can seem a little "snug" in the van. If that bothers you, choose the personal tour option. The breakfast and lunch options are not always super fancy. They do the best they can. If you are there for the "eating experience", you are there for the wrong reasons. The meals were perfect for me. We ate pizza at the Grand Canyon south rim, and the BBQ chicken dinner at Bryce was delightful. Breakfast and Lunch options were good and we got to "eat out" a couple of nights at decent local restaurants (at our expense). For me, these trips are all about the itinerary. This particular itinerary was exactly what I was looking for you. As I look at all of their itineraries, I personally think the Western Canada/Canadian National Parks trip looks like one that would fit my needs in the future but I would likely pass on their other trips. Also, I would highly recommend doing this trip (7 day Southwest national parks) in the Spring or the Fall because of the weather. I would avoid the late June, July, and August months because of the oppressive heat. Just know what you are getting into and communicate with them (they are great at answering questions). Being in a van with 12 other people didn't bother me. I chose lodging because I am not a "camper". You have to choose things that Bindlestiff offers to fit your needs and you will have an AWESOME trip. They offer so many options and are so flexible. I highly recommend this trip and company. 7 days of stunning scenery in 5 amazing parks with side trips to Antelope Canyon and an exciting Hummer adventure. Chris, our tour guider ensured every facet of the trip was on time and problem free. Our mixed group of campers and hotelers ..bonded seamlessly. The hotels were clean, hot breakfast was included with most, we were pre-checked in and luggage was delivered to each room prior to arrival. Chris was excellent in suggesting best hikes based on individual desires. During the' road time' Chris did a great job about keeping us informed about what we would see and the activities available. The small group tour met our needs 100%. Read full review
This tour was absolutely amazing! The itinerary was fantastic. We saw so much and never could have accomplished and seen all these incredible places had we done it on our own. Our tour guide, Joe Olguin, went above and beyond to make sure w..e had the trip of a lifetime. I highly recommend the operator and this tour especially! Read full review
It was much more than i had expected on my first visit to this whole area. The hotels were all well chosen and very good. Our driver and guide, Joe, was excellent: well organized, went the extra miles to show us as much as possible, the saf..est driver, very knowledgeable, managed to tell us so much during the long drives. the staff were most helpful, answering my every question very promptly, reassuring me that as a senior with back and hip problems there were always other options given by the guide if i couldn't do all the main hikes. I highly recommend it to everyone! some tips: If you're not into fast food, i do recommend packing a few really good protein bars to eat instead of some of the starch and sugar at some of the lunch places we stopped at (inevitable, because of the areas we were in). If you're going to hike, do please buy a 2 litre (or more) water bladder to keep in your backpack, so that your hands are free and you are well hydrated. (My pair of trekking poles were invaluable too!) Do book the optional tours as soon as you are offered them. I did the Antelope Canyon and the 50 minute Grand Canyon helicopter ride, and they were so memorable! Do try and ask the guide about distance and inclines before you decide to hike (if you have any physical issues like me), as you can't know ahead of time what you're capable of unless you have a bit more information. It's not enough to hear that a hike is considered easy, moderate, or strenuous. Each of us is different in what we consider feasible! Read full review
