Summary of The Day: Follow along with our expert guide as we take a trip into the past with this historic Rio de Janeiro city tour! Having served as the capital of Brazil for nearly 200 years, Rio has a collected a fascinating history over the years. To begin, we will visit the Sao Bento Monastery, founded in 1590 by two monks who came from Bahia and one of the primary examples of colonial architecture in Rio. Then we'll continue to the Candelaria Church, a unique architectural building with a Baroque facade and neoclassical interior that took over 100 years to build.
From here we'll travel down the street circuit Primero de Marzo, highlighting the France-Brazil House, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil and the Post Office building, all the way up to the Plaza XV, where the Imperial Palace and the Tiradentes Palace, which houses the Legislative Assembly, is located. Afterwards, we'll visit Cinelandia, where you can admire the beauty of the buildings of the Teatro Municipal (Municipal Theater), the National Library, and the Museum of Fine Arts.
