Day 1 - Boston. Arrive in Boston and pick up your rental car at the airport.
Day 2 - Boston - Bar Harbor. Today, head north to Bar Harbor. Along the way, perhaps stop in Salem to visit the Salem Witch Museum. You'll also want to stop at some of the charming coastal towns"such as Wiscasset, "Maine's Prettiest Village""to take in the picturesque settings on the water and to stroll along the quaint streets full of shops and restaurants. Approximately 280 miles/450 km.
Day 3 - Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park). A full day to explore Acadia National Park, the first national park established east of the Mississippi. Located on the rugged coast of Maine, the park is home to diverse habitats, striking scenery, and a wealth of flora and fauna. Hike or drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain to enjoy a spectacular sunrise over Frenchman's Bay.
Day 4 - Bar Harbor - White Mountains. Travel west to New Hampshire and the beautiful White Mountains. Approximately 317 miles/510 km.
Day 5 - White Mountains - Green Mountains. Today, cross the border into Vermont and journey into the scenic Green Mountains. Home to famous ski hills such as Stowe, Killington, and Jay Peak, this area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts year-round as well as a great place for leaf-peeping in the fall. Approximately 140 miles/225 km.
Day 6 - Green Mountains. A full day at leisure. There's time to explore the quaint villages, sample ice cream at Ben & Jerry's, enjoy a cruise on Lake Champlain, or discover one of the area's many nature trails.
Day 7 - Green Mountains - The Berkshires. Drive south to the gentle Berkshire Hills. Perhaps visit the Hancock Shaker Village, a restored 19th-century settlement, and then Lenox, summer home of the Boston Symphony. Approximately 228 miles/366 km.
Day 8 - The Berkshires - Cape Cod. Drive south to Cape Cod, often referred to as simply "The Cape." Approximately 220 miles/354 km.
Day 9 - Cape Cod. A full day at leisure to explore more of the wonders of Cape Cod. Take a whale-watching excursion, play a round of golf, rent a kayak, browse the many unique shops, or just relax on the beach.
Day 10 - Cape Cod - Boston. Return to Boston and drop off your rental car prior to departure. Approximately 74 miles/119 km.
