Here we'll begin our climb on this unspoiled wilderness route. We'll steadily but gently move up through the stunning forest that shelters a variety of wildlife. As the forest begins to thin out we'll stop at the first camp, located at the edge of the moorland zone (2600 m.) with extensive views over the Kenyan plains.

Summary of The Day: Today we'll cross the lunar desert that rests between Mawenzi and KiboHut (4700m), at the bottom of the Kibo Crater wall by early afternoon. Please be away there is no running water at Kibo Hut. The remainder of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the final ascent, which will begin early in the morning on day 7, so please get a good nights rest.
Summary of The Day: Today we'll awake just before midnight and begin our final ascent. The climb will be steep and under the cover of darkness over loose loose volcanic scree. There will be well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace that will take us to rim of the main crater, Gillman’s 5,685m.
We will rest there for few minutes to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling good can continue slowly to make the three hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru peak 5,895 m. which is the highest point in Africa.
