Summary of The Day: Get ready to cross another amazing trip off your bucket list with a climb up Kilimanjaro!
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Arusha and head out after breakfast to the Marangu Gate (1829m), where our climb will start. We'll double check all our equipment and begin our climb, hiking 3-4 hours through a scenic rainforest to the Mandara Hut (2700m), close to the Maundi Crater.
We'll enjoy dinner here and rest for the night with our fellow climbers.
Summary of The Day: After an early morning breakfast we'll set off again, trekking through the last glades of the forest and enjoy a smooth ascent through the open alpine meadow.
The altitude will require us to make a slower ascent here but will be able to enjoy the local plants and wonderful views of Tanzania. We'll enjoy a picnic lunch along the way before arriving a the Horombo Hut (3720m) after 5-7 hours of walking.
We'll have dinner here and rest up after a long day of hiking.
Summary of The Day: After breakfast, we'll spend the day adjusting to the higher altitude with a scenic hike to the Mawenzi Hut, passing by the gorgeous Zebra Rocks along the way. Here we'll enjoy a panoramic view of Kibo and Mawenzi Peak at 5149m.
We'll then descend back to Horombo, enjoying the scenery along the way. Upon arrival we'll enjoy a hot lunch and get to enjoy the excitement of the camp, which is bustling with travelers from all around the world.
Summary of The Day: After a good night’s rest, we'll carry on, passing giant Lobelias and Protease along the way. We'll trek through the lunar landscape that connects the Kibo and Mawenzi volcanoes, and have lunch on the way before we arrive at Kibo Hut (4703) after a 5-6 hour climb.
We'll arrive around midday and you'll want to get plenty of rest for our 2am climb on day 5.
Summary of The Day: We'll awake early in the morning at 2am to a warm cup of coffee or tea and some biscuits before beginning our climb to the summit. This will be the roughest part of the trip, a 4 hour climb up a steep incline to Gilman's Point (5685m) at the crater's rim of Kilimanjaro. From here it'll take us less than an hour to reach Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa.
Wooh! You made it. Make sure to save some camera battery for this moment to catch a pristine panorama photo from the summit and take a group photo with your fellow travelers.
From here we'll descend directly down to Horombo Hut, where you'll spend the night.
Summary of The Day: After breakfast, we'll begin our final decent to Marangu Gate where we'll catch our ride back to Arusha.
