Summary of The Day: Spend a day visiting two of the most beautiful places in Paris: Musee d'Orsay and Notre Dame.
We'll begin by touring the largest collection of Impressionist paintings in the world at Musee d'Orsay, where you'll see works by Van Gogh, Monet, Degas, Cezanne, Renoir, Lautrec, and many, many more. Hear the fascinating stories of their lives and how they permanently altered the course of artistic expression.
Get close some of the most recognizable Impressionist paintings as your guide explains the radical techniques the masters introduced and how they paved the way for future artists and movements. A favorite among Parisians, the Musee d'Orsay is not to be missed.
The morning tour of Musee d'Orsay ends at around 11:30am.
After the tour of Musee d'Orsay you will be given free time for lunch. Our guides will be happy to recommend a place for you. Then it's just a hop, skip and jump along the banks of the Seine River to Ile de la Cite, the meeting point for our afternoon tour.
We'll begin the afternoon program by touring Ile de la Cite on foot. There we'll visit the flower market - recently renamed in honor of Queen Elizabeth - stroll along the Seine River, and admire the Conciergerie, former prison and final residence of Marie Antoinette.
Notre Dame was built between 1163 and 1345, and later immortalized in the novel Hunchback of Notre Dame. Your guide will first introduce you to the ornate exterior, explaining both the innovative construction methods and symbolism of the sculptures adorning the facade, then take you inside to show you the 13th-century stained-glass windows. Once you're done gaping in awe, we'll skip the notoriously long lines and go straight up to the top of the cathedral towers for some of the best views of the city, watched over by the ever-present gargoyles!
The full-day tour will introduce you to two of Paris's biggest icons. In addition to navigating the crowds and skipping the long lines, our expert guides are highly adept at getting the most out of your time, ensuring that you get the very best of Paris in a day.
The afternoon tour of Notre Dame ends at around 4:00pm.
