Day 01

There are no planned activities during the day, so check into the hotel and explore the city. If you arrive early enough, you'll have time to head into the city take in the 'cultural capital of Australia.'

Please try to arrive before 7pm for an important group welcome meeting where you can meet the Chief Experience Officer (CEO) and the other group members.

Day 02
Port Campbell

Melbourne - Great Otway National Park - 12 Apostles - Port Campbell

Hotel: Port Campbell Hostel or similar

We'll depart early morning for the journey to Port Campbell and travel past world-famous surf beaches along the Great Ocean Road. Check out the famous surf towns of Torquay, Bells Beach and Lorne en route.

Our first stop will be at the Great Otway NP for an included rainforest walk. Stroll sandy beaches and hike along the rugged coastline, take photos from rock platforms, and head north to see forests, green gullies, pristine lakes and gushing waterfalls.

Then we'll see the picturesque 12 Apostles. Now with only eight formations still standing, these iconic attractions were once limestone caves which eroded to become arches and eventually stacks up to 45m (147 ft) in height. Afterwards we'll continue along the Great Ocean Road to the beautiful Loch Ard Gorge which shows the process of erosion in action.

See offshore stacks and blowholes, and watch short tailed shear waters soar over the nearby island. This location is a perfect backdrop for a group photo. Get snapping!

We'll arrive in the evening at our overnight accommodations in Port Campbell

Day 03
Halls Gap

Port Campbell - Grampians National Park - Halls Gap

Hotel: Grampians ECO YHA Hostel or similar

Today we'll travel inland to Grampians National Park, known for its sandstone mountain range and impressive rock art. We'll visit more attractions of the Great Ocean Road including the London Arch, formerly the London Bridge after its breaking in 1990. This brief stop on the Great Ocean Road showcases the art of nature -- the erosion of limestone and the beautiful rock formations it creates.

Then we'll enter Tower Hill State Game Reserve for a chance to see animals endemic to Australia such as koalas, emus, and kangaroos. Here we'll also learn more about this large volcanic crater and wetland and the role it plays in Aboriginal history. Set off on one of the self-guided walking paths, then visit the Worn Gundidj Centre to see cultural displays and crafts.

Afterwards we'll have the chance to visit an Aboriginal Cultural Centre to learn about the significance of the area to the indigenous people and end the day with an evening walk in the Grampians National Park.

We'll stop in Halls Gap for our overnight accommodations.

Day 04
Grampians National Park

Halls Gap - Grampian National Park - Mt Gambier

Hotel: The Old Mount Gambier Gaol Hostel or similar

We'll have an early start today to explore more of Grampians NP. We'll along a dirt track past lookouts, sandstone ridges and other various rock formations. Be rewarded with sweeping views of the natural landscape of low mountains and cliffs.

Then we'll set off from the Reed Lookout overlooking Victoria Valley, and enjoy a short walk with beautiful scenery to the Balconies, formerly called the Jaws of Death. Check out the gorgeous view, but be careful not to lean too far over the edge!

Afterwards we'll head to Mackenzie Falls, the only waterway in the region that flows year-round and it is also the most visited waterfall in the Grampians; take a short walk and check out the falls out from a viewing platform. In Spring, see wonderful wildflowers in bloom along the path.

We'll continue onto the country town of Mount Gambier where we'll stay at a refurbished old English prison for the night. While here, take a self-guided tour around this historic site.

Day 05

Mount Gambier - Coorong National Park - Adelaide

From Mount Gambier we'll head to the Blue Lake for a stop before arriving at Coorong National Park. This park is stunning because of its dune systems, lagoons, coastal vegetation and variety of bird life. Then we'll on to Adelaide, where the tour ends upon arrival (estimated arrival time around 8:00pm).

    All countries require a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity). Contact your local embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements, or see your travel agent. It is your own responsibility to have the correct travel documentation. Visa requirements for your trip will vary depending on where you are from and where you are going. We keep the following information up to date as far as possible, but rules do change and sometimes without warning. While we provide the following information in good faith, it is vital that you check the information yourself and understand that you are fully responsible for your own visa requirements.
    A valid passport and visa is required. For some nationalities, the visa can be issued by your Travel Agency or the Australian Embassy via Electronic Travel Authority (ETA).

    1. By Taxi: Approximately $70, and it is 35km to the joining hotel.
    2. SKYBUS, $16 per person: A 24-hour service from the airport to the Southern Cross train station in the city centre. From here, check in at the Skybus Hotel Transfer Service booth and a SkyBus mini-bus will drop you at the hostel.
  • Tipping
    It is not customary in New Zealand or Australia to tip service providers, but if you do experience outstanding service it is good to do so. Such service would only usually be in places like quality restaurants and it would be very rare that you would tip more than 10%. Unless specifically asked to do so at the time (by your CEO) - do not tip your local guides. Also at the end of each trip if you felt your G Adventures Chief Experience Officer did an outstanding job, you may consider a small tip - but it certainly isn't expected.
  • Please also make sure you have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an 'emergency' fund, to be used when circumstances outside our control (ex. a natural disaster) require a change to our planned route. This is a rare occurrence!
  • Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere in Australia and can be used to purchase small and large items. When purchasing products or services with a foreign credit card you may be charged additional fees by your credit card company for foreign purchases.

    Credit cards and debit cards are very useful for cash advances but you must remember to bring your PIN number (be aware that many ATM machines only accept 4-digit PINs). Both Cirrus and Plus system cards are the most widely accepted debit cards. Both Visa and Master Cards are the most widely accepted credit cards. While ATMs are commonly available, there are no guarantees that your credit or debit cards will actually work check with your bank before you travel. A visit to an ATM can be arranged on Day 1 and other days of the trip.

    Do not rely on credit or debit cards as your only source of money. A combination of local currency (preferably smaller bills, 5's, 10's and 20's), traveler's checks and credit cards is best. Currency exchange is best obtained prior to travel or at the airport, currency exchange is easy to find in Australia in the gateway cities and most banks do accommodate.
  • What To Bring
    You will be on the move a lot, so our advice is to pack as lightly as possible. We recommend the use of a well-labeled duffel bag, soft bag or backpack (whichever you find easiest to carry). Suitcases or heavy luggage are not recommended for the health of the CEO! A good size day-pack (20-35L) is also essential as you will have the chance to walk and hike in different national parks during these trips. This daypack will be used to carry your personal gear for the day, your lunch and a water bottle.
  • Meals
    Eating is a big part of traveling. Travelling with us you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world. Generally meals are not included in the trip price when there is a choice of eating options, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. It also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally food is cheap. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your CEO will be able to suggest favorite restaurants during your trip. Please refer to the meals included and budget information for included meals and meal budgets.
  • Travel Insurance
    Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When travelling on a group trip, you will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your leader, who will take note of your insurance details. When selecting a travel insurance policy we require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency evacuation and repatriation. A minimum coverage of USD 200,000 is required. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, the level of coverage and emergency contact telephone number.
  • In order to protect your own property, please bring any valuable items with you at all times. Please do not leave any valuable items on the bus/hotel/attraction/restaurant etc. Tours4fun, local operators, drivers and tour guides will not take any responsibility for any theft loss at any location.
  • This tour/activity is overseen by a select local operator in the region. Upon booking your tour or activity and after receiving confirmation, you will be issued an e-ticket detailing the local operator's name and contact information. Contact information for local tour provider will be included on E-Ticket for your convenience or re-confirmation purpose if re-confirmation is required.
    4. Simply print your E-Ticket and present it with your valid photo ID on the day of your activity to your tour guide. Please remember E-Ticket is your proof of purchase.
