Venice

Milan - Venice

Begin your European vacation in stunning Milan, a design and couture-conscious city.

Our guided tour will lead you to the city's most beloved attractions: the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the oldest shopping arcade in the world; the legendary opera house La Scala; the storied Sforza Castle; and the ostentatious Milan Cathedral.

From here we'll journey to Venice, the city of over 150 canals spanned by over 400 bridges. We'll stay overnight in Venice or a neighboring city.

Day 02
Rome

After breakfast, we'll lead you on a tour of this fascinating city of ornate palaces, lyrical waterways, captivating churches and impressive architecture. In San Marco Square you'll see the Basilica di San Marco, one of the best examples of Byzantine architecture, and the Bridge of Sighs connecting the old prison to the interrogation rooms in Doge's Palace.

Afterwards, you'll get a chance to see some traditional Venetian craftswork at a demonstration by Murano glassblowers. An optional gondola ride on the Grand Canal will put the finishing touch on a glorious day in Venice (admission not included).

Accommodations in the evening will either be in Rome or a neighboring city.

Day 03
Arezzo

We'll begin today with a scrumptious breakfast before heading to the Vatican City.

Prepare yourselves and your camera as we visit one of the most architecturally renowned structures in the world. First,l we'll head directly to St. Peter's Basilica, originally built by Constantine the Great in 324 AD, then reconstructed between 1506 and 1615 under the direction of several famous architects including Bramante, Raphael and Michelangelo. You may also join the optional Sistine Chapel tour to view Michelangelo's famous frescoes (own expense).

Next, we'll return to Rome city proper and pay a visit to the famous Trevi Fountain, the lavish Baroque showpiece where people flock to throw coins into the water - an action which is said to ensure that you’ll return to the city again one day.

After lunch, we'll travel further back in time and visit Italy’s unrivaled Roman relics. An optional guided tour of the Colosseum (admission not included), built in AD 72, comes highly recommended. History comes to life as you imagine yourself witnessing gladiatorial combat inside the spectacular amphitheatre. You may also choose to walk at your leisure around the outside to admire the facade of this ancient wonder.

After the Colosseum, get up close to the nearby Arch of Constantine, which dates back to the fourth century AD, then spend some further free time enjoying Rome, sampling the rich and creamy delights of gelato.

After some free time you can either visit Basilique Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri (Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs) near Piazza della Repubblica, or head directly to the nearby Mitsukoshi Department store for some serious shopping.

Day 04
Genoa

Florence - Pisa - Genoa

Today we'll journey further through Italy and encounter the sights and sounds of Florence, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. We'll head up to the Piazzale Michelangelo for a panoramic view of Florence, then to a local workshop to see how Florence's fine leather goods are made.

Afterwards, we'll set out on foot to the Ponte Vecchio over the Arno River, the Duomo, Giotto's Bell Tower and the Uffizi (exterior only), which houses one of the finest art collections in the world.

Next, we'll travel to Pisa, where you'll be free to wander; be sure to have your camera ready when you enter the Square of Miracles and the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pisa Cathedral and Baptistery come into full view.

We finish our evening by continuing on to Genoa or a city nearby for an overnight stay.

Day 05
Avignon

Genoa - Monaco - Grasse - Nice - Cannes - Avignon

Our journey back to France begins today as we take a breathtaking drive along one of the most sublime stretches of Mediterranean coastline and say farewell to Italy.

But before we arrive in France we'll visit the independent city state of Monaco. Here we'll take a walking tour to see the exterior of the Prince's Palace of Monaco, the Courthouse, the Oceanographic Museum and Saint Nicholas Cathedral, the resting place of Grace Kelly. We'll then travel to the Fragonard Perfume Factory to learn about the perfume-making process. At the end of the guided tour you will be able to purchase one of the fragrances for yourself.

Next we'll cross into France and visit Nice for a sampling of the scrumptious local cuisine.

We'll stop over in Cannes to see the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, host of the city's annual international film festival, and then make our way to Avignon Nord to check in to our hotel.

Paris

Luxembourg

Today we'll begin our exploration of mainland Europe as we depart Paris and drive out into the rolling countryside of Champagne, famous the world over for its sparkling white wine. Along the way we'll learn about the region's history, traditions, and architecture while we visit Reims, where every king from the 11th century on was formally anointed.

Our last stop on this day is Luxembourg, the world's only remaining grand duchy. Here we'll encounter the Adolphe Bridge, Place de la Constitution and the Alzette River Valley.

We will stay overnight in Luxembourg or a neighboring city.

Day 08
Frankfurt

Luxembourg - Trier - Koblenz - Frankfurt

Hotel: Sheraton Congress Hotel Frankfurt / Sheraton Offenbach Hotel or similar

From Luxembourg we'll cross the border into Germany and visit the historic Trier, Germany's oldest city and the former capital of the Western Roman Empire. Also known as the hometown of Karl Marx, the father of Communist thought, we'll get to visit his former residence, which now houses the Karl Marx Haus museum.

After a lesson in ideology, we'll make our way to Porta Nigra, the largest and most well-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps. Then we'll drive to Koblenz, the town located at the confluence of the Rhine and Mosel Rivers.

In the summertime you will have the option of joining a scenic river cruise on the Rhine (admission not included).

We'll make a short stop in Ruedesheim to see the Niederwalddenkmal, a monument built in the late 19th century to commemorate the founding of the German Empire.

Finally, we'll arrive in Frankfurt, the largest financial center in all of Europe. Here we'll take a sightseeing tour of the city, visiting the exterior of the following attractions: Old Opera House (Alte Oper); Roemerberg, the historic heart of Frankfurt; St. Paul's Church, where Germany's first united constitution was drafted by the freely-elected National Assembly; and Die Zeil, Germany's busiest shopping street.

Tips:
The Rhine boat cruise operated from April 1 to October 31.
Day 09
Amsterdam

Frankfurt - Bonn - Cologne - Amsterdam

From the current capital of Germany we'll travel to Bonn, the former capital of West Germany. There we will visit Beethoven House and University of Bonn.

Next, we'll head to Cologne to see the iconic Cologne Cathedral, followed by a stroll along the shopping street Schildergasse.

After lunch we will depart for Holland, staying overnight in Amsterdam or a neighboring city.

Day 10
Amsterdam

Amsterdam - Zaanse Schans - Amsterdam

Hotel: Hampton by Hilton Hotel / Amsterdam Schiphol or similar

After breakfast at the hotel, we will introduce ourselves to Amsterdam and visit all the major attractions in Dam Square, including the Royal Palace and the National Monument. You will have the option of hopping onto a glass-topped boat for an hour-long cruise through the storied canals (admission not included).

Afterwards we will visit Coster Diamond Factory to see how diamonds are cut and prepared for market, using techniques that have been in use since the 16th century.

Next, we'll take a short trip outside of Amsterdam to visit to Zaanse Schans, the windmill capital of Holland. There we will visit the Wooden Shoe Workshop & Museum and the Cheese Farm to see how clogs and cheese are made.

Back at the hotel, you might be interested in an optional tour of Amsterdam's world-famous Red Light District (admission not included).

Tips:
From mid-March to mid-May, the tour of Zaanse Schans will be replaced by a visit to Keukenhof Garden, a seasonal exhibition of tulips in a kaleidoscope of colors.
Day 11
Paris

Amsterdam - Brussels - Paris

After breakfast we'll head to Brussels, the Belgian capital and political center of the European Union. Our first stop will be the Atomium monument, a cell-shaped structure of stainless steel spheres and tubes built for the 1958 World's Fair. Then it's on to Grand Place and Town Hall, the crowning achievement of Gothic civil architecture. After a look at Manneken Pis, the famous tinkling cherub, we'll head to the French border and make a beeline for Paris.

Day 12
Versailles

We'll begin our tour of Paris as we cruise down the famous Champs Elysees to the Place de la Concorde, which played a key role in one of darkest chapters of the French Revolution. Along the way we'll get to see the iconic Arc de Triomphe.

Next we'll head to L'Hotel National des Invalides, which houses Napoleon's tomb and a number of other monuments relating to the military history of France.

After introducing ourselves to Paris we'll travel to the splendid Palace of Versailles (admission not included), residence of the royal family until the start of the revolution in 1789. After touring this spectacular structure, we'll return to Paris in the evening.

After dinner you may want to avail yourself of the optional cruise along the River Seine (admission not included).

Tips:
Effective January 1, 2018, we will take a stop at Eiffel Tower right after L'Hotel National des Invalides. You can either take time to explore the neighborhood and have some lunch or scale the Eiffel Tower. Choice is yours.

Paris

Paris

The second part of our Paris tour package will lead us through the country's rich cultural history. This can only be done with a vsiit to the Louvre, the grande dame of art museums.

Inside these pristine walls, the art lover in you will dance with joy as you set your eyes upon some of the highest-valued masterpieces of the Western world, including the Venus de Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace, and the Mona Lisa.

After lunch we'll head to Boulevard Haussmann, a shopper's paradise in the heart of Paris, where you will be free to shop till you drop.

Before you leave this captivating city don't miss the world-famous cabaret shows at Lido and Moulin Rouge (optional).

Tips:
Effectively January 1, 2018, you can take a optional cruise along the river Seine after your visit of the Louvre. It is a great sightseeing option that offers splendid views of iconic Parisian landmarks, including Notre-Dame Cathedral and Pont Alexandre III.

There are three times and places where you may conclude the tour:

- 2:00pm at the Louvre
- 6:30pm at Boulevard Haussmann
- 8:00pm at the hotel booked for those extending their tour to other destinations
